Andrew Denton returns to Seven and Nova for a second season of Interview

Andrew Denton is returning to Seven for the second season of his show Interview. The new season will begin airing on Tuesday 23 April.

It follows off the back of season one which featured a number of guests including Magda Szubanski, Cher, Mick Fanning, Daniel Johns, and Guy Pearce.

The first season marked a return to hosting for Denton after a 10-year break at the end of Enough Rope. During that time Denton worked as a producer for a number of television shows including Gruen Transfer, before taking a six-year break from television.

Interview follows a simple format of two chairs, two people and one conversation. The guests for the new season haven’t yet been announced, with Denton saying it will come as a surprise even to him.

“I can’t tell you who’ll be in the blue guest chairs this year, because first, that would spoil the surprise, and second, nobody tells me anything around here. Apparently, I’m just a pretty face,” said Denton.

“What I can say is that it’s a privilege to sit and talk with extraordinary people at length about what makes them tick. That moment – when everything goes quiet and all the bullshit of television seems to drop away – that’s the moment I’m always hoping for. When it happens, it’s unforgettable.”

Season one of Interview consistently rated between 450,000 and 550,000, with guests like Szubanski bringing in higher figures.

“I guess that, really, we’re slow food in a fast-food environment. That makes us a slightly odd fit in the world of 2019. So, if it makes it easier, just think of us as Marinated at First Sight,” said Denton.

Interview will also come with a companion podcast series, titled the same, which is being released through Nova Entertainment in partnership with Acast. The podcast will provide listeners with behind-the-scenes information on the TV show, including the motivation and approach for each guest. New episodes will be available every Tuesday and Thursday.

“I love podcasting, because it gets inside peoples’ heads like nothing else,” said Denton.

“Nova and Acast know exactly how to reach those heads. We’re so well suited, it’s like Married At First Sight without the assholes.”

The podcast is sponsored by Belong and Dairy Australia. The first episode will be available Thursday April 18.  Andrew Denton’s Interview will air at 9pm on Tuesdays.
