He replaces Gavin Gibson, who departs the agency after 18 months, is moving to San Francisco, Mumbrella understands.

Livingston departed Initiative at the end of last yeara year after he moved to the COO role. Prior to his role as COO of Initiative Group, he was the CEO for nearly three years.

Before that he was the head of client communications planning at Mediacom for five-and-a-half years. In the year since he departed Initiative, Livingston has been in London.

Nick Cleaver:

Cleaver: Livingston is one of the leading media CEOs in the country

Speaking to Mumbrella, Nick Cleaver, 303 MullenLowe CEO, said: “We’ve known Andrew for quite a while. He’s one of the leading media CEOs in the country. We were particularly drawn to him by the depth and breadth of his experience and he’s a leading media practitioner who can really help us grow our media product.”

Both Initiative and 303 MullenLowe are owned by holding company Interpublic Group whose media offering sits within Mediabrands.

Cleaver said: “We were also particularly drawn to him because being within the Mediabrands group, he’s familiar with all their tools and the businesses they have developed very successful and all that experience and exposure he’s had is something we see as very relevant to the continuing development of our media product.”

In a statement Livingston said: “I have immense respect for the multidisciplinary model that 303 MullenLowe has created. Having advertising, strategy, data, PR, digital and media buying all sitting together under one roof, without walls or silos, is a compelling approach to developing better client solutions. I’m looking forward to bringing my media agency expertise to a ‘hyper-bundled’ agency environment.”

On how many clients the media agency side of 303 MullenLowe works with, Clever said it was a “smaller operation”.

“In total we’ve got a dozen media and creative bundled clients. We’ve got a couple of media only. It’s not an insignificant media offering,” he said.

The appointment of Livingston follows on from the agency’s rebrand from 303Lowe to 303 MullenLowe in January and the establishment of a dedicated PR division in June.

Livingston joins 303 MullenLowe in January.
