Angela Mollard to replace Mia Freedman as News Ltd Sunday columnist

News Limited has appointed journalist Angela Mollard to replace Mia Freedman as a columnist for the publisher’s Sunday newspapers.

Mollard has been columnist with News’ Sunday Magazine for the last two years and will have her first column across News’ metropolitan papers this Sunday.

“I’m thrilled obviously, what’s not to love about being in the highest selling newspapers in the country”, said Mollard.

“It’s a big platform but newspapers are where I began [my career] and so I think I have a strong news background and I will still commentate on the news.”

Mollard began her career at the New Zealand Herald before moving to London where she worked for Britain’s Daily Mail for seven years before moving to Australia.

Her columns will be nationally syndicated across the company’s five main Sunday papers – The Sunday Telegraph in NSW, The Sunday Herald Sun in Victoria, The Sunday Mail in Queensland, The Sunday Mail in South Australia and The Sunday Times in Western Australia.

Editor of The Sunday Telegraph Mick Carroll said he was pleased with the appointment.

“Angela has been working very successfully with the Sunday Magazine and has been getting a lot of positive feedback from readers”, said Carroll.

“I think the appeal of Angela is that she has a really broad range. She can talk about her kids, politics, anything and she has a really authoritative voice which is the real appeal for us because that’s what we try to be to everyone.”

News announced the cancellation of Mia Freedman’s column back in November citing company wide cutbacks. Freedman, however, claimed her contract was cut short because her website MamaMia is competitive with News Limited.
