AO women’s singles semi-final ratings fail to reach the 2022 Barty highs

Australian Open’s semi-finals for women’s singles topped entertainment on Thursday, handing Nine another overall win.

Day 11’s first night session aired to 526,000 metro viewers on Nine, while the second session aired to 438,000. The first session also topped all three key advertising demos.

The matches saw Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan) playing against Victoria Azarenka (Russia), and Magda Linette (Poland) against Aryna Sabalenka (Russia).

The figures are overshadowed by ratings of last year’s semi-finals in women’s singles, when Australian Ash Barty’s won against American Madison Keys bringing in 1.341 million metro viewers.

Next in Thursday’s entertainment was Seven’s The Chase Australia, which attracted 430,000 metro viewers. The network’s Home and Away came in next on 415,000.

ABC’s Australia Day Live concert drew in 300,000 metro viewers, while Hot Seat on Nine followed with 282,000.

The #1 program on Thursday was Seven News with 815,000 metro viewers, followed by Seven News at 6:30 with 797,000 metro audience, then Nine News and Nine News at 6:30 with 672,000 respectively.

As mentioned, Nine Network won the overall share with 36.3%. It is followed by Seven with 24.4%, ABC with 16.5% and Ten with 14.8%.

Nine also won the primary channel share with 26.4%. However, the top-rated multichannel on Thursday was 7Two with 3.4%.

In the latest Daily Consolidated Total TV Report for 19 January, Seven News was the #1 program nationally across linear, with 1.291 million viewers, including 32,000 on BVOD and an uplift of 3%.

However, the program with the biggest uplift was an episode of Home and Away on Seven with an uplift of 31% and had a total of 961,000 viewers overall, and BVOD audience of 172,000 nationally.
