Arclight Films partners with Singapore’s IFS Capital

Arclight Films International Pty Ltd (Arclight) and Singapore’s IFS Capital Limited (IFS) have solidified a deal for the financing of P.J Hogan’s Mental.

The deal had been in talks before but was confirmed and closed at this week’s ScreenSingapore conference.

This is the second feature film collaboration between the two companies, the first being 33 Postcards, starring Guy Pearce and Zhu Lin.

Mental will reunite P.J Hogan, director of Muriel’s Wedding, with its star Toni Collette and will go into production mid-summer 2011 in Australia.

Of the story, written by Hogan and inspired by his own experiences, He said in a statement, “Like Muriel’s Wedding, Mental is a comedy, but a comedy based on reality, laced with pain and brimming with flawed but lovable characters. Shaz (the central character) was hilarious, outrageous, dangerous, courageous, inspiring, heartbreaking and totally, totally mad. And she changed my life.”

IFS Capital Limited is a private institution involved in commercial and structured finance, private equity investments and credit insurance and guarantees.

Said an IFS Spokesperson, “We’re absolutely thrilled to be able to fund this film project with Arclight. Teaming up with Arclight positions IFS to strategically explore the international co-production space. We see ourselves playing a pivotal role as a premiere financier for international co-productions such as 33 Postcards and Mental. In Arclight we have found a good partner to do so.”

Arclight is set to handle sales outside the of the US while Creative Artists Agency will deal with sales within the US.
