ARN sponsors Flannery award for radio journalism

Australian Radio Network (ARN) has announced its sponsorship of the Sean Flannery Award for Outstanding Radio Journalism.

The announcement:

The Kennedy Foundation is proud to announce ARN (Australian Radio Network) as the sponsor of the prestigious Sean Flannery Award for Outstanding Radio Journalism at the 10th Anniversary NRMA Kennedy Awards.

The award recognises excellence in radio news and current affairs, in the spirit of the late Sean Flannery, legendary for his vivid, accurate and exclusive stories.

Kennedy Foundation Chairman Rocco Fazzari thanked ARN for its support of the Flannery Award, won last year by the ABC’s Gavin Coote, for his series of compelling reports about the bushfire crisis on the NSW South Coast.

“For all the evolution and revolution in our industry radio has remained resilient for its immediacy in covering breaking news, and the depth of current affairs reporting that digs deeply beneath the surface of daily stories,” Mr Fazzari said.

“We are delighted to have the support of ARN and its network of journalists who play such a vital role in keeping Australians informed from minute to minute, 24-7.”

ARN’s National News Director Deborah Clay said she was excited by ARN’s partnership with the Kennedys after an enormous news year in which radio journalists focused on the many stories to emerge from the coronavirus pandemic.

“We’ve received robust feedback from our listeners throughout the pandemic across ARN stations including 4KQ in Brisbane, Cruise 1323 in Adelaide, GOLD104.3 in Melbourne, WSFM in Sydney and 96FM in Perth,” Ms Clay said.

“Our listeners are engaged and passionate about our news brands and value credible and compelling information and reporting.

“The NRMA Kennedy Awards is a fantastic opportunity to come together as a media community and celebrate the brilliant and hard-working journalists of Australia.”

Entries for the 10th Anniversary NRMA Kennedy Awards open on May 19 and close July 1 ahead of the August 6 presentation gala at Royal Randwick.
