ASICS unveils iconic gold Wallabies jersey for 2021 season

ASICS has unveiled the new Wallabies jersey for the Australian Rugby team for the 2021 season.

The announcement:

ASICS, the true sports performance brand has today launched the new Wallabies jersey for the 2021 season, featuring a return to the iconic gold colour – as seen in the 1991 Rugby World Cup when the Wallabies held aloft the William Webb Ellis Trophy.

The new gold jersey, as voted by fans and Australian Rugby royalty, was designed and manufactured in Australia and consists of 100% polyester fine gauge jersey knit. The ASICS spiral logo also sits proudly alongside the green Wallabies logo to complete this classic jersey.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of that memorable World Cup win in 1991 and the new gold jersey combines the history of that famous team with technological advancements in fabric, fit and durability.

Andy Marinos Rugby AU Chief Executive said: “This gold jersey represents more than the 15 players on the field – it’s about our history and our future. It has delivered gold on the biggest stages, it is Australia’s gold, and the thread that binds the entire nation together.

“The team at ASICS did not shy away from the task when asked by Rugby Australia and have put a great amount of detail, effort and focus into this jersey. To turn it around in a matter of months signals the importance and support we have enjoyed in making sure our teams are ready for battle.

“It was a memorable night earlier this year when the jersey colour was voted on, with clear indications leading into the event that the colour was a fan’s favourite with the poll prior to the event.

“I know the Wallabies are very excited to pull on the jersey when they run out at Suncorp Stadium next week and will strive to make us all proud as we unite behind the team and the jersey once again.” Marinos said.

Reece Hodge, Wallabies Player and ASICS Ambassador said, “I love the updated colour and to revert to Australia’s gold. The Wallabies jersey is iconic and known around the world – and I know I speak on behalf of the players when I say how excited we are to pull it on and represent Australia.”

Mark Brunton, Managing Director for ASICS Oceania said, “We’ve worked closely with Rugby Australia in recent months to ensure the colour of the famous jersey resonates with fans and players alike.

It’s such an iconic gold with historical success, which we hope inspires current Wallabies players when they pull it on.

To have consistency in the colour of the gold jersey moving forward is a powerful statement and to also have a jersey manufactured here in Australia is something we’re excited to have launch in market this week for fans to purchase.”

ASICS also launched their marketing campaign “Bound Forever” which emphasises that the jersey means more than just the threads that bind to make it, it connects fans to players and connects the past to the future.

Featuring former Wallaby captain John Eales delivering the powerful voiceover, the campaign highlights that the jersey not only represents the 15 players on the field, but also respect, sportsmanship, and togetherness.
