Aus/NZ independent cinemas join forces

The Independent Cinemas Association of Australia has partnered with its New Zealand counterpart, the New Zealand Motion Picture Exhibitors Association.

The move is the result of the global issues the industry faces, with the organisations hope to fight with a regional response to film piracy, digital cinema transition, changes to cinema release models and the development of alternative content.

NZ independent exhibitors will become members of the ICAA, with a permanent seat on the board.

According to the ICAA, independent cinemas across both countries make up for 30 percent of the gross box office, and the new alliance represents 600 screens in 160 locations.
