Aussie media gets behind Shitbox Rally

Nova FM, Top Gear Magazine and Ninemsn will support the Shitbox Rally – a car rally to raise money for the Cancer Council.

The announcement:

Sydney, 13 January 2011: Nova FM, Top Gear magazine and ninemsn have signed up to support one of the most unique and challenging car rallies in Australia – The Sh*tbox Rally.

On the back of an incredibly successful rally in March last year, which saw 17 teams raise over $104,000 for Cancer Council, the 2011 Shitbox Rally has not only attracted three national media partners, but also more than 100 teams, who are aiming to raise over $600,000.

James Freeman, creator and director of the rally, said: “It is great to have three of Australia’s leading media onboard, who are committed to growing the awareness of Sh*tbox Rally. These supporters will really put the rally on the map and will help us to achieve our goal to raise much needed funds for Cancer Council.“

Nova will not only be sending a themed Nova and listener team, but will also support the rally nationwide through regular updates, interviews and on air/online promotions. Wade Kingsley, Group Integration Director from Nova, said: “Our listeners will be able to follow the teams in the various stages of the rally and track their progress (and knowing our talent, lack of progress) on air and also on novafm.com.au. As soon as we heard about this initiative, we jumped on board – anything with the term Sh*tbox has Nova written all over it.”

Print media partner Top Gear magazine, recently named Australia’s number one men’s magazine*, will also be sending its own team, which will report on the rally before, during and after it takes place.

ninemsn motoring, part of Australia’s largest online content publisher, will be backing up the rally with updates, interviews, video and image libraries on its lifestyle motoring site. This media partnership is the first-ever initiative ninemsn motoring has become involved in outside the PBL Media group.

These recent media partnerships follow hot on the heels of the recent PRIA Golden Target Award, which was granted to the inaugural Sh*tbox Rally campaign, run in conjunction with ICON International Communications.

The initial Sh*tbox Rally was created by James Freeman, who lost both his parents as well as his brother to cancer, to help raise funds for the Cancer Council NSW. Funds raised from the rally will go towards Cancer Council’s vital cancer research, prevention, information and support services, like the Cancer Council Helpline (13 11 20).
