Australia beats England in The Ashes as 1.041m watch on

Australia was triumphant over England last night, beating them by an innings and 41 runs as 1.041m metro viewers tuned into Nine to watch the victory.

The fifth day of the Ashes third test ran into some of Nine News’ scheduled time slot. The news was therefore recorded as having 1.244m metro viewers by OzTAM’s overnight preliminary metro ratings.

According to OzTAM, The Ashes session three yesterday saw 837,000 metro viewers tune in, however, Nine’s national average time-adjusted audience metric suggests 1.041m tuned in to watch this session. OzTAM recorded 963,000 metro viewers tuning in for session two.

The match, which was played in Perth, suffered from rain delays during the earlier session (12:30pm to 3:30pm AEDST). Play did not actually commence until the second session, which was scheduled for 4:10pm to 6:00pm AEDST. Session three ran over time into Nine News, which was scheduled to begin at 6:50pm.

Seven News was the second-most-watched program of the evening as 1.022m metro viewers tuned in.

Meanwhile, ABC’s Back Roads was the most-watched non-news/sports program attracting 696,000 metro viewers.

Nine had the largest overall audience share for Monday evening with 20.8%, beating Seven’s 18.9% share, ABC’s 13.2%, Ten’s 8.6% and SBS’ 4.8% share.
