Less than 1m people were recorded as watching when Australia regained the Ashes in the final session of the third test yesterday afternoon.

The cricket live from Perth until 4.45pm averaged 937,000 metro viewers according to OzTam, However, those numbers do not record people watching out of home, in offices, bars and cafes.

The early finish meant Nine ran repeats of The Big Bang Theory from 7.30pm to 9pm, taking the lead over Seven’s repeat of Dynamo: Magician Impossible, which averaged 497,000 in all cities but Melbourne which has been split out of the OzTam ratings.

Combined with the Melbourne rating of 226,000, the magic show had a total 723,000 viewers across the five cities at 7.30pm.

Meanwhile Jamie’s Christmas with Bells on was fourth in its timeslot with an average 544,000 for Ten as ABC1’s 7.30 summer edition had 587,000 metro viewers.ABC1’s cooking show with Nigella Lawson, Nigellissima: An Italian inspired Christmas, was second in the 8.30pm timeslot with an audience of 578,000 as Seven’s Criminal Minds averaged 593,000. Meanwhile Ten’s NCIS rated 515,000 at 8.30pm.

Channel Nine’s film US Marshalls with Tommy Lee Jones and Wesley Snipes was fourth in the 8.30pm timeslot with an average 464,000 metro viewers.

Nine News was the top program of the night with 1.068m viewers while Seven News averaged 1.043m. And Nine won the night with 20.8 per cent of the audience share, although Seven was not far behind with a 19.5 per cent share. Ten’s audience share was 13.3 per cent, just behind the 13.7 per cent won by ABC1.
