Australian app offers filmmakers their share of a $50,000 filmmaker fund

Filmmaker social media networking app The Green Room has just launched a $50,000 filmmaker fund with a jury that includes Game of Thrones’ Stephen Beres and acclaimed Australian director Kriv Stenders.

The announcement:

The world’s first of its kind global filmmaker networking app has created a $50,000 filmmaker fund to celebrate its launch.

Boasting an international jury that includes Stephen Beres, HBO’s Vice President of Media & Production Operations, (Game of Thrones, Westworld), The Green Room $50,000 Filmmaker Fund is open to US and international filmmakers and has been created to address the perennial funding challenges that most filmmakers face in kick-starting or completing productions.

Other jurors include acclaimed Australian director Kriv Stenders (Red Dog, Kill Me Three Times, Australia Day), UK producer Vicki Betihavas (Morrissey, Lord of the Dance) who recently live-produced Woody Harrelson’s amazing live streaming feat with his feature Lost in London and Spanish auteur Roberto Pérez Toledo.

“First we created The Green Room networking application to connect the global filmmaking community and address some long standing challenges. Now we are proud to be able to set up a fund to support this very community. It is our intention to repeat this funding initiative every year and increase the amount even more,” said Peter Lord, co-founder and managing director of The Green Room.

According to Lord, most filmmakers resort to using their own money to fund their projects or often seek support from family and friends. Some will venture into crowdfunding initiatives but according to the data only a fraction of film projects actually reach their budget objectives on these sites.

The Green Room is an Australian innovation has been embraced by filmmakers around the world and already downloaded and used in more than 50 countries.
