GQ Australia and NYT’s Adam Baidawi to launch GQ Middle East

Writer, editor and photographer Adam Baidawi has been appointed the first editor-in-chief of GQ Middle East, according to Arabian Business.

Baidwai, who was Mumbrella Publish’s 2017 Young Writer of the Year, will be responsible for the launch of the title in September. It will be published under an agreement with ITP Media Group, which also owns Arabian Business.

The writer, who was born in the United Arab Emirates and raised in Australia, was most recently with The New York Times, working as an Australian correspondent. He has also spent the last seven years as correspondent for GQ Australia, filing stories from Iraq,  Pyongyang in North Korea, Ibiza and the US. In his time with GQ, he has also profiled a number of celebrities, athletes and politicians.

Baidawi is best known for a piece he wrote for GQ Australia about his time in North Korea. 

Throughout his career, Baidawi has also worked across other publications including Triple J Magazine, The Age, Rolling Stone Australia and international titles such as Esquire, Red Bull, Mr Porter and PopEater.

Mumbrella has approached Baidawi for comment.
