Australian Spartan to air on 7mate on November 6
The second, and likely final, season of Australian Spartan will air on 7mate on November 6 after the show failed to deliver the ratings Seven hoped it would.
Australian Spartan was produced as an alternative to Nine’s successful Australian Ninja Warrior, but it was quickly moved to a non-ratings period as it failed to live up to expectations.
A second season was filmed at the same time as the first, which has left Seven with the decision of when, or if, to air it. Season one of the program premiered in February 2018.
The first episode delivered 816,000 metro viewers, less than half of the first episode of Australian Ninja Warrior which brought in 1.68m. The show quickly began to fall, dropping to 524,000 for the second episode, and bowing out to 447,000 for its final episode.
The program is hosted by Edwina Bartholomew and Hamish McLachlan and sees teams of three compete in heats, ending with two teams in the final. It’s an adaptation of the American format Spartan: Ultimate Team Challenge and is based on obstacles used in the real-life Spartan Races. Season one had just five episodes, all of which were filmed on the course in Brisbane, as was season two.
This is like reporting on the expired can of tinned peaches in the back of my pantry. Who care’s about it and how is it news?
The only bright side, is that Edwina Bartholomew might be viewing it during her mat leave, and like 1000’s of other Aussie mums on mat leave, will discover that most of the FTA network content is rubbish….
