Avatar to be shot in the Blue Mountains? The SMH seems to believe it

Could it be that the SMH has been caught out by an April Fool? It certainly looks like it.

Dr Mumbo’s Google news alerts tells him that smh.com.au posted the headline: “Avatar sequel to film on Tweed”, crediting its source as the Tweed Daily News.

But the link to the smh.com.au story (and to the same on one theage.com.au) is now dead.

Meanwhile the Tweed Daily News story goes on to report that the film will be called Avatar II: Blue Mountain Love.

And if that wasn’t enough of a clue (or the fact that the movie is CGI so doesn;t require a set), it quotes as its source gossip between director James Cameron’s astrologist and a masseuse. It adds:

“The source reportedly said film crews would have to cut down “a few football fields” worth of rainforest to make way for production, but it would be worth it for the international exposure.”
