AWARD School offers Indigenous scholarships for creatives

The AWARD School has launched an Indigenous scholarships program, aiming to increase diversity within the industry.

The new scholarship program, launched in partnership with Pluto, offers selected creatives from Indigenous communities acceptance into the Award School application workshop and then entry into the AWARD School course.

Supported by The Communications Council, the organisation will cover the fees for the selected scholarship recipients.

The AWARD School Indigenous scholarships program has been created to encourage more Indigenous people to enter the advertising and media industry.

According to Pluto’s website, AWARD School students will be chosen on the merit of their ideas in their application and not on what they are currently doing in their life.

Those accepted into the program will then have the chance to join an agency as a copywriter, art director, designer, creative director or executive creative director.

Tony Hale, CEO of the Communications Council, said in a statement to Mumbrella: “Advertising has always required diversity of opinion and a variety of skills. The industry has very low representation from our indigenous community for whom storytelling is at the heart of their culture. The AWARD School scholarships have been created with the belief that we can unearth some brilliant creative talent.”
