Seven’s original reality format Back with the Ex will screen on Seven after the Commonwealth Games.

The network has released a trailer for the program, which tracks troubled ex-partners as they meet up and decide whether to give the relationship another shot.

The trailer features Lauren and Eric, who split via text message after a tumultuous six years. The trailer teases he now wants her back and asks viewers for their opinions.

Seven is hoping to continue to lift its ratings performance after its flagship reality program My Kitchen Rules took a hit in the face of the runaway success of rival Nine’s Married at First Sight.

Despite MKR’s defeat by MAFS, Seven’s programming boss, Angus Ross, told Mumbrella he remains pleased with its overall performance of an average 1.1m metro viewers, saving his disappointment for the flop of Australian Spartan.

The show, which displayed major similarities to Nine’s Ninja Warrior, debuted with 816,000 metro viewersThat number reduced to 524,000 viewers the following week.

“Spartan was disappointing when we launched that,” Ross told Mumbrella, but insisted the network still believes in the show, which is finishing up this week during the Easter non-ratings period.

The Commonwealth Games run from 4 to 15 April, with the official ratings season re-commencing from the Easter break on 8 April.
