Bastion signs Clemenger’s Anna Cherry to lead media offering

Bastion has nabbed Clemenger BBDO’s chief media officer, Anna Cherry, to lead its recently-launched media offering.

Bastion Media officially launched in December last year, spearheaded by CEO and seasoned media agency talent Cheuk Chiang. It launched with Kellanova — parent company of Kellogg’s — as its foundational client across ANZ. Bastion also holds Kellanova’s creative account across ANZ.

It was designed to reflect the independent agency’s commitment to integrating media into its creative model. Chiang previously described it as a “transformational step that fundamentally changes how we deliver strong client solutions”.

Cherry joins as Bastion Media’s Australian managing director, where she will oversee the offering’s expansion, leading strategy, client relationships, and team development across the region.

She joins from Clemenger BBDO, where she has been chief media officer for two years. Prior to that, she held senior strategy roles in media agencies including PHD, Spark Foundry, and Dentsu.

“From day one, our goal has been to close the gap in media and create a truly integrated offering for clients; one door, one team, one purpose. Anna’s appointment is a pivotal moment in that journey,” Chiang said in a media release.

“She brings not only deep media expertise but also a passion for collaboration, creativity and client outcomes. With Anna at the helm, Bastion Media will play a profound role across our entire business from advertising to communications, experiences to social, influencer to insights.”

Cherry said Bastion is the “only agency that is capable of delivering on the promise of connecting culture, media, and commercial creativity”. She said clients today need more than just “great media”, they need connected thinking that drives growth.

“I’m excited to lead a team that’s not only shaping the future of media but also redefining how agencies partner with clients.”

According to the release, Bastion Media is a response to significant shifts in the marketing landscape, including increased media fragmentation and platform dominance. The agency’s ultimate ambition is to become the “largest and most effective independent media network in Australasia”, with plans for further growth across the region and into Asia.
