BBC Worldwide has promoted its head of business and legal affairs Fiona Lang to chief operation officer for Australia and New Zealand in a round of promotions across the regional team.

Lang joined the BBC over two years ago after working in private practice where she advised broadcasters, publishers, distributors and new media clients, working with media companies such as Foxtel.

Her promotion comes as Alistair McEwan, vice president for advertising sales for BBC Worldwide in Australia and New Zealand, takes on new responsibilities as director of advertising sales and brand partnerships.

McEwan has managed advertising and sponsorship sales for, as well as international advertising sales for BBC World News, since July last year, including a push for native advertising partners in the region.

In his new role McEwan will set up a cross-platform media sales department for all advertising sales and brand partnership sales in the region. And he will oversee BBC Worldwide’s joint venture with Bauer Park Publishing for the Top Gear Magazine and website.

Jon Penn, managing director of BBC Worldwide AANZ, said: “Fiona has been instrumental in leading several key deals for BBC Worldwide this year and her role reflects the need for enhanced strategic business planning.

“Alistair’s role will enable us to offer more cross-platform advertising solutions to clients and Irene’s role will help to facilitate better co-ordination of television distribution across all platforms, as we enter our new arrangements with Foxtel and the ABC.”

BBC Worldwide ANZ is currently recruiting for a director of finance.

Penn added: “These new roles are a reflection of the company’s changing needs as it builds new partnerships in the market and the ability of Fiona, Alistair and Irene to deliver a first-class service to meet this demand.”
