Beckham and Pepsi. Fake but great
Here’s a piece of video in which footballer David Beckham just happens to be holding a can of Pepsi in his hand.
Is it fake? Of course.
Is it even an original idea? Nope.
Is it good marketing? For sure.

@tom – I think so….

Sounds like it was overdubbed with bad porn actors in the background.

Beckham should always be watched on mute . .

This stunt is just like his wife’s boobs. Fake, but nice to look at.

I watched this without having seen who it was for and thought to myself “I wonder what that is a can of that he is holding” and although it might not be an original idea, he does carry it off well

Love it…shame about the dude behind the camera and the fact he’s drinking his pepsi through a straw…so GAY !

These virals are so over done. Yes the aim is to get people talking (is it real? is it fake?) but there are countless video’s over the years that are better quality. The Roddick Serve for Gatorade. The Ronaldinho Nike, The Rodger Federer Gillete and to a lesser extent the New Zealand All Blacks efforts.
My point is you would think a brand like Pepsi would have a little more originality or at best a better quality talking point than kicking a few footballs into some bins

I’m still laughing from Comment #1. Another example of good WOM marketing – different target market, however.

Drinking with a straw….? Really??

These worked about 10 years ago when at least there was the fake, not fake ambiguity
Now it’s just a complete copy of all the ads listed above (and more). With David Beckham. Is it ‘good marketing’? Maybe. But is that good enough? For me it’s not. It’s just utterly lazy and it makes me sad inside.

@ Vincent Vega – come on, you cannot deny David Beckham is probably #1 in terms of celebs with phenomenal selling power. I worked with the guys who did the Roger Federer, Gillette stunt…this stuff boosts sales. FACT
I would say well done to Pepsi, but let’s be honest if you have the budget to hire David Beckham you can pretty much sell anything / do anything / make anything viral with or without brains

“Is the guy behind the camera from Bang Bus?” – would have brought a whole new meaning to David hitting three in the can.

not viral. fail. the guy behind the camera was annoying. it will work in the US though- they aren’t exposed to football ads enough to be cynical. housewives of america prepare to spam people’s inboxes and walls.
