Ben Shepherd joins Thinkerbell as general manager of media

Ben Shepherd’s next role has been revealed, with Thinkerbell announcing he will be joining the agency as general manager of media.

Mumbrella revealed Shepherd would be departing CHE Proximity last week.

CEO of Thinkerbell Margie Reid – who worked with Shepherd at OMD – said the new recruit had a beautiful mind.

Shepherd starts at Thinkerbell in September

“An iconoclast thinker and communicator, he has the ability to cut through, and make the complicated simple. However, perhaps even more importantly, he’s a transparent and honest operator. He’ll ensure our joined up and holistic approach to media is amplified as we grow our competencies in this space,” she said.

Thinkerbell launched as a creative agency in June 2017, however it has since been building up its media capabilities with clients including Bega, Journey Beyond and Ssang Yong.

Shepherd said he was excited to help the agency grow.

“You can’t ignore Thinkerbell. It’s a strong brand in the marketplace, with a model I fundamentally believe I can help grow,” he said.

“Marketers have never had more options but less choice. Thinkerbell is a distinctive, ambitious and genuinely interesting collection of different people, talents and capabilities with an energy and curiosity that is really bloody appealing. I’m excited to play a role in creating really great, effective work.”

Jim Ingram, the agency’s chief creative tinker, explained how Shepherd would fit into the agency’s model.

“With context being so important to communications nowadays, it’s vital that the medium and message are thought of as one. The insights Ben has, his way of thinking about people and media will help us unlock our creative and deliver a little more ‘Measured Magic’ into the world,” he said.

Shepherd’s new role begins in late September.

Prior to his time at CHE Proximity, he had been the director of PwC’s CMO Advisory for two years. Prior to that he was head of strategy and innovation at OMD.
