BHP’s Simon Corrigan joins Cannings Purple in director role

Corporate communications agency Cannings Purple has appointed Simon Corrigan as a director. Corrigan has more than 15 years’ experience in corporate consulting.

Prior to Cannings Purple, Corrigan spent the past four years at BHP, the last two of which as head of community and Indigenous affairs.

He was previously government relations manager and then head of corporate affairs at BHP’s Olympic Dam operation, has held senior roles with Atlas Iron and CITIC Pacific Mining. He also as political experience as a campaign manager and chief-of-staff for state government ministers and federal MPs.

Cannings Purple managing director Warrick Hazeldine said Corrigan is “a highly respected adviser with skills that equip him to contribute across the full breadth of Cannings Purple’s business.”

“His experience in stakeholder engagement and community relations is first-class, having led a newly created team as BHP’s national head of community and Indigenous affairs and driven the creation of a strategic approach across social investment and Indigenous affairs,” he said.

“Olympic Dam is one of the biggest mining projects in Australia and Simon’s role there required him to work with multiple levels of government and manage relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders within BHP.

“His government, community and stakeholder engagement experience will help deliver key outcomes for Cannings Purple’s clients.

“He also has strong credentials in reputation and crisis management and our market-leading corporate affairs team, headed by director Fran Lawrence, will only be strengthened by his arrival.”

Cannings Purple has also announced the appointment of Dane Chandler in a newly-created position of product sales manager. Chandler joins the agency following a 20-year career at The West Australian, where he was most recently national sales manager.
