The 1 minute 30 second spot starts with a boy on a farm walking and listening to music. He is then shown to be teased for his dancing, before dancing alone, showing the connection he finds with others. It is then revealed that he is in a dance class via a video call, ending with the line: “Every business is important to someone so they’re all important to us.”

Colenso BBDO chief creative officer Simon Vicars said: “It’s been a hard year for businesses. Now felt like the right time to advocate for their importance again –to remind us all of the influence they have in the lives of everyday New Zealanders. There’s so much uncertainty that comes with being a teenager. This is a story of a business that doesn’t just teach dance, but reassures a kid he’s not alone.”

Bank of New Zealand GM marketing and design Amy Phillips commented: “At our heart, we’re the bank that backs businesses and the people behind them. The last 18 months have been tough for New Zealand’s businesses, but we’ve stood by them and helped them adapt, knowing the important role they play in our communities.”

The campaign will run on TV, digital and is supported by out-of-home and social.
