Brand New Media has hired former senior Fairfax editor Lisa Hudson to head its content offering as the company seeks to capitalise on the recent launch of HbbTV in Australia.

Hudson, who is a former general manager of food and wine at Fairfax Metro Media, will take the new head of lifestyle channels role and oversee the launch of its partnerships with Seven for lifestyle channel HealthyMEtv and a, as yet to be named, new digital food channel.

“Brand New Media is an incredibly impressive company, a leader in brand digital content with a global footprint and it is investing in areas I’m passionate about,” Hudson told Mumbrella. “To have the opportunity to help create the leading food and health channels in Australia is extremely exciting.

“It will be separate and we will be setting up a new digital food channel. HealthyMEtv is still in its infancy and I will building that up as well.”

Hudson is a former Sydney Morning Herald GoodFood Guide editor and is on Tourism Australia’s food and wine advisory panel.

Simon Joyce, managing director of Brand New Media, said Hudson’s skill set would be crucial to building their offering in the new hybrid TV: “We launched a food (channel) in Asia, in Singapore, under a brand called Food For Life, and our intention was always to launch it in Australia but we needed Lisa’s skill set.

“That partnership is the first of its kind with Channel Seven and Freeview Plus, and you will see healthyMEtv launch very shortly as a bespoke offering.”

Hudson begins in the role today.
