Brave new Labor
Dr Mumbo thought he’d woken up in Dubai when he opened up today’s Daily Telegraph. Story after story was full of praise for the brave government leadership as the newspaper took a crack at the sort of stories it claims media minister Stephen Conroy wants.
“Senator Conroy,” reported The Tele, “one of the most successful and handsome members of cabinet, gave the public a rare treat by playing in the annual Stephen Conroy versus The Rest of the World soccer match.
“The minister especially stunned onlookers with an ingenious move in which he pretended to fall over so he could closely inspect the turf.”
Then there was an opinion poll article, headlined “Good news as Gillard the Great does well”, which concluded: “Despite the excellent results, it is important to remember that the only poll that counts is the one on election day, in which all citizens are free to vote for the government in any way they choose.”
And there was more: “Prime Minister Julia Gillard yesterday bravely defended Australian workers against attacks on their jobs by foreign raiders.”
Well played, Daily Tele. Well played.
sigh
Fucking children.
This is what they think is informed, reasoned debate? Honestly! Mainstream Australian politics and media looks like bad college mags.
I can’t wait for the Guardian to get an Australia edition fully launched and I’d rather read about Australia from other sources, ones that treat me as if I have a high-school education and a reasoning mind.

Dickheads. It’s their inability to reasonably report on policies like Labour’s NBN that really piss me off. They stink of LNP propaganda and when there is some balance (see Nick Ross’s big article on the NBN) it gets shouted down and bullied by members like Mr Turnbull. Sorry but Australian main stream media is a complete farce. The irony of their comparison of Mr. Conroy to past despots is that it clearly illustrates the need for said reforms. Well played Mr. Murdoch.

All they need now is more stories about aliens, and they’ll have jumped the shark completely.

The Daily Telegraph’s response to the media reform bill has been hysterical in every sense of the word – if it was a person you’d slap it across the face.

I seem to be in a minority here but I kind of like what the Daily Telegraph is doing, purely because it seems to be infuriating so many Conroy supporters.
Imagine what the difference in opinion would be if Tony Abbott proposed this bill.
