Bridget Jones’s Baby screams into top spot at box office

Bridget Jones’s Baby stormed to the top of the box office on its second weekend taking $3.689m.

The third in the rom com series based on Helen Fielding’s books played on 483 screens and was too strong for last week’s chart topper The Secret Life of Pets, which managed $3.518m in second place.

Pete’s Dragon, a remake of the 1977 classic was the highest new entry in fourth with $992,543 on 414 screens, behind Tom Hanks film Sully in third on $2.135m.

Blair Witch, a sequel to the 1999 horror film, mustered $708,997 on 183 screens in fifth.

Suicide Squad continues to hang around the top ten with $261,142 over the weekend, with total takings of $33.446m so far.
