Britbox builds local team ahead of launch, led by Moira Hogan

Network Ten’s Moira Hogan has been named as country manager for Britbox ahead of the streaming service’s launch in Australia later this year.

Hogan spent seven months at Ten as head of content and commercial partnerships for digital media, where she was responsible for broadcast video on demand (BVOD) service 10 Play.

Previously, she was general manager of content partnerships at Telstra, where she spent seven years on the strategy for Telstra TV and Bigpond Movies. She’s also held roles at Fetch TV, Fox Sports, and the ABC.

Hogan joins from Ten

The ad-free streaming platform is a joint venture between BBC Studios and ITV and features both classic and contemporary British content.

In her new role, Hogan will work with the platform’s North American team, which oversaw the launch of the SVOD service in 2017, followed by Canada in 2018 and the UK last year.

“ITV and BBC Studios have created a premium SVOD product in Britbox and I’m excited to lead its launch in Australia,” Hogan said.

“The partners have an unrivalled catalogue of British programmes, with some of the world’s best-known acting and presenting talent, which we’ll be able to offer local audiences, curated and all in one place.”

Hogan will be supported by Richard Hill. He joins as head of launch marketing and PR from SBS, where he was digital strategy lead and grew audiences across the broadcaster’s digital products, including BVOD service SBS on Demand.

Hill has also been digital marketing manager at Lego, senior customer growth marketing manager at Ebay, and head of digital marketing, and digital and communities manager, at BBC Worldwide, which became BBC Studios.

“I have a long-held passion for British content and am incredibly excited to be given the opportunity to launch, and grow, a SVOD service from these two iconic broadcasters,” Hill said.

BBC Studios’ local general manager, Fiona Lang, said the pair will act as a the foundation of a “formidable team”.

“Moira has an impressive background in launching and growing digital products, with experience across content, commercial and strategy,” said Lang.

“She has the ambition and vision to lead this exciting new offering for Australian audiences. With Richard’s industry-leading skills in digital marketing also on board, we are putting in place a formidable team to enable us to take the next step in Britbox’s launch plans.”

ITV’s group strategic partnership and distribution director, Martin Goswami, added that “both Moira and Richard’s skill sets and digital expertise perfectly complement our requirements for Britbox Australia, as we look towards establishing the brand as one of Australia’s premium SVOD platforms”.
