WPP Media wins Suncorp with new agency model

WPP Media has won Suncorp’s media account and will stand up a bespoke “Open Era” model for the insurer, with Mindshare’s Maria Grivas to lead the relationship.

The scope spans Suncorp’s full brand stable — AAMI, Apia, Bingle, CIL Insurance, GIO, Essentials by AAI, Shannons, Suncorp Insurance and Terri Scheer — with the model drawing on WPP Open’s AI and automation capabilities.

OMD was the incumbent: it had handled Suncorp’s media planning and buying since 2018.

The appointment is effective from 1 March. B&T reports the win represents $140 million in business and that Mindshare led the pitch; Suncorp’s creative remains with Leo (Publicis Groupe).

“We are excited to be working with WPP Media to collaborate on industry-leading marketing and media solutions across our diverse portfolio,” Suncorp EGM for brand and customer experience Mim Haysom said.

“We’re excited to partner with Suncorp and the phenomenal marketing team there, and shape the next era of success together,” Grivas said in a press release.

OMD Australia Sian Whitnall co-CEO thanked her team for their passion and dedication over years in servicing Suncorp.

“Even the strongest of partnerships can come to an end and we are incredibly proud of the partnership we had with Suncorp and all that we achieved together over the last seven years,” she said in a written statement.

“From ‘Saving the AFL Grand Final‘ to the ‘AAMI Crash Index‘ the team pushed the boundaries of media innovation, producing award winning work and achieving outstanding business impact … we wish the Suncorp team every success in the future.”
