Broadsheet launches flagship podcast called FYI

Broadsheet has launched its flagship podcast titled FYI.

The announcement:

Broadsheet, Australia’s go-to culture guide, has been engaging, informing, and entertaining audiences online and in print for more than a decade. Excitingly, the publisher is now applying that same approach to audio storytelling with its flagship podcast, FYI, launching this November.

Each 20-minute episode of FYI unpacks a specific topic and reveals a fascinating slice of Australian culture. Stories are told with contributions from some of the most interesting and influential cultural figures in the country from top chefs (such as Jacqui Challinor, Danielle Alvarez and Shane Delia) to fashion tastemakers and more

Ever wondered why one person’s ‘perfectly seasoned’ is another’s inedibly salty? Or why you’re addicted to food delivery apps? Or how certain foods end up on every menu in the city? FYI is like listening into a conversation with some of your most curious friends. You’ll be entertained and emerge with conversation fuel for your next dinner party, pub session, or work kitchen run-in.

The show is hosted by Broadsheet Editorial Director Katya Wachtel. “Like Broadsheet, FYI is about sharing the things we’re most excited about and delving into zeitgeisty subjects we feel deserve a closer look. But with FYI, we’re doing it slightly differently – bringing listeners behind the scenes of those stories,” says Wachtel.

“Our mission has always been to enrich the lives of our readers and drive cultural conversations through great storytelling and experiences across channels. FYI becomes another way to entertain and explore topics that interest our audience in an intimate, personal way,” adds Broadsheet Founder and Publisher, Nick Shelton.

FYI is produced by Broadsheet’s award-winning production team, headed up by Executive Producer Ellen Fraser, with Karla Arnall (Slushy, The Pineapple Project) as Audio Producer.

“Compelling audio storytelling comes in many forms,” Fraser says. “For FYI, we let the narrative drive the structure of each episode, so listeners can expect a mix of one-on-one studio interviews, first-person accounts, and in-field reporting, with a different Broadsheet reporter taking listeners on a journey each week.”

Here’s a small taste of what to expect:

• I Want to Wean Myself Off Delivery: After a traumatic delivery order, one Broadsheet editor sets himself a mission: no more food delivery. But a simple attempt to quit the apps becomes a six-month ordeal.

• How to Spot a Fake in the High-End Sneaker World: Sneaker authenticators sort legit designer goods from the fakes. So, what do they look out for? And what do you need to know to ensure you’re not getting scammed?

• Restaurant Confessional: Broadsheet opens the phone lines to our audience, including customers and chefs around the country, asking them to share their most bizarre, memorable and moving tales from the world of dining.

“FYI is really an extension of Broadsheet. It’s not too heavy or serious, even though the research is rigorous and the conversation intelligent. We know our audience likes to get the inside scoop. FYI will provide that,” adds Katya.

The show is proudly supported by long-time Broadsheet partner Dan Murphy’s, helping bring the new format to life through exclusive sponsorship of season one. “We’ve been working with Broadsheet for over two years and have seen the partnership grow and evolve. We’ve worked on some fulfilling collaborations to date and FYI is such an exciting new extension, so we were thrilled to jump on board,” says Sarah Tencer, Marketing Manager – Brand at Dan Murphy’s.

FYI will entertain, inform, enlighten and amuse. Whether you’re an avid podcast listener or a Broadsheet fan, it’s a must for your 20-minute commute, lunch break or weekend walk.

FYI is now available to follow now on Spotify, and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts and all good podcast players. Episode one will be released on November 2, 2021.
