Brooklyn-themed lifestyle agency launches in Brisbane

Lifestyle consultancy We Are Brooklyn has launched in Brisbane.

Independent communications group Cole Lawson is shaking up Brisbane’s thriving agency landscape, with the launch this week of a new lifestyle consultancy named after New York’s eclectic and cosmopolitan borough of Brooklyn.

Brand, marketing and consumer PR agency We Are Brooklyn launches with The Westin Hotel Brisbane, luxury property developer Spyre Group and Italian hospitality group Gemelli as its foundation clients.

The new agency forms the third pillar of the Cole Lawson Group, joining creative and web studio Ruby6 and corporate affairs and B2B firm Cole Lawson Communications in the company’s Fortitude Valley headquarters.

Former Ogilvy account manager and branding specialist Hannah Park has joined We Are Brooklyn as lead consultant and will work alongside group general manager and consumer PR expert Kyra Shakspeare.

Group founder Margaret Lawson said the time was right to expand into the new service area, with Brisbane’s 2032 Olympics expected to fuel a state-wide investment boom over the next decade and beyond.

“We have been optimistically planning for a future beyond the pandemic, and the successful Olympics bid was the final factor in deciding to reinvest in Brisbane for Cole Lawson’s next stage of growth,” she said.

“Brisbane is being talked about globally as an investment and travel destination, and we’re about to go on a fantastic journey to become a world-class city with unlimited opportunities for new and existing consumer brands.

“We aspire for We Are Brooklyn to be the first choice for clients discerning businesses entering or growing in the Brisbane market and needing a partner to help them engage and inspire their consumers.”

Ms Shakspeare said We Are Brooklyn would represent one client per category, with its first hospitality project the launch of Gemelli Group’s fourth restaurant and adjoining aperitivo destination, Bar Tano, into Fortitude Valley’s James Street Precinct.

“Our team members are committed foodies and passionate about our local neighbourhood, so launching a major new restaurant in our own precinct is a very fitting way for We Are Brooklyn to start,” Ms Shakspeare said.

She said the We Are Brooklyn name was inspired by Fortitude Valley’s cosmopolitan vibe and the neighbourhood’s Brooklyn-like transformation into a bustling food, music, retail and lifestyle destination.

“Several of our team have history, creative connections and family in Brooklyn, and we hope to bring that global experience and energy to help our clients create a lasting impression in this market.”
