Bullfrog’s Dan Sparkes joins former colleagues at indie shop Hellions
Elle Bullen and Mike Doman’s Hellions has revealed its first appointment since launching earlier this year.
Joining his former Bullfrog peers, Daniel Sparkes has been named as the creative shop’s new partner.
Sparkes finished at the independent creative agency in March, after spending five years there. He helped build Bullfrog from the start, when it was just a four person startup.
He has worked at other agencies including Leo Burnett, DDB, and Chep Network, with clients including AGL, 7 Eleven, Samsung, Honda, and more.
He is also the director of education at the Melbourne Advertising Design and Creativity club.

Sparkes said it is rare to find a place to work that matches a person’s ambition and enthusiasm, but he believes Hellions is the place for him.
“The world has a zero tolerance for mediocre work — and Hellions’ ambition to make the extraordinary sets an unambiguous bar: create things that earn their place in the world and make people, brands and businesses more valuable,” he said in a media release on Tuesday.
“The chance to build something I’m proud to work at every day, alongside some very talented friends, is a no brainer for me. Hellions feels like home, and the combination of mischief and independence in the air gives big school camp energy — which I’m one hundred per cent here for.”
Hellions was founded in February by creative Bullen and strategist Doman as a way for the pair to get back on the tools.
It is described as being “hell bent on finding the extraordinary” in every problem, brand, brief, team member, and opportunity. According to its Linkedin, Hellions is powered by “brave ideas, limitless imagination and a very real aversion to doing the ordinary”.
When Doman heard that Sparkes started freelancing, he and Bullen “threw some serious elbows” to nab him.
“Dan’s ambition and work ethic is only matched by the size of his heart. He’d run through a brick wall to make great work, would lie down in traffic to help his team, and he cracks sensational gags,” he said in the release.
“More than that, though, we just absolutely love the guy… and we’re bouncing off the walls with joy that he’s decided to become a Hellion.”
