Bunnings named Australia’s best brand again: YouGov

YouGov has released its annual Best Brand Rankings, with hardware and garden retailer Bunnings claiming the top spot, yet again, with a score of 49.2.

The rankings are based on YouGov BrandIndex’s Index score: a measure of overall brand health calculated by taking the average of Impression, Quality, Value, Satisfaction, Recommend and Reputation. The brands are ranked based on their Index scores compared to the previous year.

YouGov’s Top 10 Best Brands

The most recent rankings has not seen any major changes from the previous year, as Google and Cadbury retained their positions in second and third, achieving scores of 46.2 and 46.0, respectively.

Oral care company Colgate remained in fourth with a score of 45.7, then automotive manufacturer Toyota in fifth again, with 44.6.

Samsung (44.4), YouTube (41.4), Paypal (41.4), JB Hi-Fi (41.2) and Weet-Bix (40.8) rounded out the top ten list.

Alongside the overall rankings, YouGov’s BrandIndex also measures the ten most improved brands over the past year.

Australian skincare brand QV was found the most improved with a score of 20.1, improving +4 points from the previous year. Social media platform Facebook followed (+3.4), then online travel agency Booking.com (+3.3).

YouGov’s Top Ten Improvers

Amazon improved +3.1, and Toyota, which came fifth overall, improved +2.8. WhatsApp (+2.8), Pay in 4 by PayPal (+2.5), Qatar Airways (+2.3) and P&O Cruises (+2.3) were among the other largest improving brands.

Nivea, which topped YouGov’s Biggest Brand Movers list in December 2023, rounded out the top ten most improved brands, with an increase of +2.2.

The Index Rankings chart shows the brands with the highest average Index scores between January 1, 2023 and December 31, 2023. The Index Improvers chart ranks the brands with the highest increase in Index, comparing scores from the previous 12-month period. To be included in the improver list, the variance must be positive. Both scores are representative of the general population of adults 18+ (some are online representative).
