BW Magazine ceases publication, with content to move to Saturday Xtra

The Daily Telegraph’s weekly BW supplement has ceased publication, with the majority of the content moving across to the existing Saturday Xtra section.

The news follows the announcement of the resignation of Jeni O’Dowd as the editor of the Saturday edition of The Daily Telegraph and BW Magazine earlier this year. O’Dowd will depart News Corp in early July.

The BW launch issue

Ben English, editor of The Daily Telegraph, said the new Saturday Xtra is a ‘more attractive’ space for brands.

“From Saturday 15th June, we are introducing a bigger and better Saturday Xtra in The Daily Telegraph. As a result, the free celebrity-based BW magazine insert on Saturdays has ceased publishing with all the popular BW Magazine content moving across to a boosted Saturday Xtra.

“Saturday Xtra is one of the most popular features of our Saturday paper, and with expanded pagination, it will have more stories and more sections, covering hard-hitting news, in-depth coverage of issues, deep dives on big news stories, profiles of interesting people, opinions, letters and crosswords.

“We believe it is a more commercially attractive space for advertisers.”

O’Dowd was the only editor of BW Magazine, which launched in 2016. She had been the editor of the Saturday edition of The Daily Telegraph since 2011. Prior to that, she was the editor of The Sunday Telegraph for more than eight years.

A News Corp spokesperson confirmed to Mumbrella that James Morrow, opinion editor of The Daily Telegraph, will continue as editor of Saturday Xtra and the majority of the BW Magazine team has been redeployed to other roles in the masthead and around the company.

BW Magazine was launched as News Corp axed Best Weekend and Kidspot and was aimed at busy parents, offering real-life interviews, celebrity news and glamour and parenting advice.
