Call for entries: 10th ASTRA Awards

The Australian subscription TV industry is calling for entries for the 10th annual ASTRA Awards.

The announcement:

Recognising and celebrating subscription television’s creativity, commitment and investment in production and broadcasting, the 10th Annual ASTRA Awards are open for entries

The ASTRA Awards, which recognise excellence in the Australian subscription TV (STV) industry, will be accepting entries for the 10th annual event from Monday 6th February until 4pm on Friday 2nd March 2012. Entries are sought from Australian STV channels and platforms for programs that aired between 1st January 2011 and 29th February 2012.

“The ASTRA Awards are a celebration of STV programming and highlight the depth and breadth of content available across 200 channels. The industry’s investment and commitment provides ongoing support for the development of Australian talent and content creators as well as providing jobs and contributing to our local culture” said ASTRA CEO, Petra Buchanan. “Subscription TV has led the way in bringing innovations not only in technology, convenience and diversity of programming choices to our viewers.”

“Each year we listen to our subscribers and in 2012 we have added a new award – Favourite Program International Drama – allowing our viewers to vote for drama productions aired on STV from around the world. In 2011 STV has introduced audiences’ to shows as diverse as Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, The Borgias and Falling Skies as well as new series of favourites like True Blood, Dexter, Gossip Girl Breaking Bad and Sons of Anarchy to name just a few. Now these can be recognised alongside STV investment in Australian productions such as Tangle series 3, Cloudstreet, Small Time Gangster, Spirited and Killing Time. The ASTRA Awards have been 10 years in the making and we are looking forward to an awards night marking our first decade,” added Buchanan.

The 10th Annual ASTRA Awards are divided into four main categories.

2.      Favourite Program – Australian
3.      Favourite Program – International
4.      Favourite Program – International Drama
5.      Favourite Personality – Male
6.      Favourite Personality – Female

PROGRAMMING & PRODUCTION
7.      Most Outstanding Children’s Program or Event
8.      Most Outstanding Music Program or Coverage
9.      Most Outstanding Sports Program or Coverage
10.    Most Outstanding Documentary
11.    Most Outstanding News Program or Coverage
12.    Most Outstanding Reality Program
13.    Most Outstanding Lifestyle Program
14.    Most Outstanding Light Entertainment Program
15.    Most Outstanding Drama
16.    Most Outstanding Use of Innovation in Programming

TALENT
17.    Most Outstanding Performance by an Actor – Male
18.    Most Outstanding Performance by an Actor – Female
19.    Most Outstanding Performance by a Presenter
20.    Most Outstanding Performance by a Broadcast Journalist
21.    Best New Talent

Any entries entered into the 2011 Awards will not be eligible to enter the 2012Awards, this does not apply to current seasons of ongoing series.
