Cam Hoelter back at DDB as group creative partner

Cam Hoelter is back at DDB after five years, returning as group creative director at DDB Sydney.

Hoelter has spent the last year on sabbatical after leaving CHEP Network after just six months as executive creative director. He was hired in the wake of Wesley Hawes’ departure in September 2020 and took up the role two months later, after returning from New York.

He was part of the DDB network for seven years at both DDB Sydney, then DDB New York, working on clients including McDonald’s and Volkswagen.

Returning to DDB Sydney, he will work with McDonald’s as it celebrates 51 years of partnership with the network in Australia, the agency said.

DDB Sydney executive creative director Matt Chandler said: “I couldn’t be happier to have Cam back at the agency. He’s a brilliant creative leader and an all-round good guy. I loved working with him the first time and I reckon the second time will be even better.”

Hoelter added: “I know from experience how great the people are at DDB, and just what a powerhouse brand McDonald’s is. So returning to work with them both was one of the easiest decisions I’ve ever had to make.”

The agency said Hoelter’s work across both Volkswagen and McDonald’s has been recognised with 11 Cannes Lions.

After leaving DDB, Hoelter joined McCann New York as SVP, ECD, working on Verizon, then returning to Australia for the role at CHEP, and since taking time out from the advertising industry.
