CarsGuide.com.au kicks off TV push as rivals portrayed as ‘incompetent and old fashioned’
CarsGuide.com.au has kicked off a marketing campaign with TV adverts aimed at portraying rivals as “incompetent and old fashioned”.
The first of five ads aired during the NRL Grand Final on Sunday, with the campaign to be supported with digital, radio, out of home and print executions.

The campaign, the first work undertaken for the brand by BWM Group Sydney, has been described by CarsGuide as a “direct affront to competitors”.

You may not like the creative (is that guy deliberately made to sound like GR?) but at least they are having a crack and trying to disrupt the prevailing commercial leads model. Really hard to though to have two generic market places – tends to be one big one a lots of niche verticals – and their positioning may be too narrow but at least they are trying to provide a genuine alternative.

The main difference si they are showing cars on a map …which means you dont have to hand over your email and phone number to find ot wherea car is ….what they need to do is close the gap in stock levels, particularly on private listings.

The bizarre irony of this ad is that the man is clearly an experienced actor, and more engaging.
The woman is clearly not an actress – presumably someone’s friend who agreed to help out on the day. She lacks intent and credibility, and sounds bored and disinterested in what she’s saying.
