Chen Kaige appointed SFF jury president

Chinese director Chen Kaige has been appointed president of the Sydney Film Festival Official Competition jury; Kaige is the first non-Australian to perform this role, following previous jury presidents Jan Chapman, Rolf de Heer and Gillian Armstrong.

“We are delighted to welcome Chen Kaige as our 2011 jury president. Renowned for his opulent visual style and epic storytelling, Chen is one of China’s leading filmmakers and a director of high international standing. His leadership brings more prominence and prestige to our event,” said festival director Clare Stewart.

Three films participating in the $60,000 Official Competition have been announced – Attenberg (Athina Rachel Tsangari), The Future (Miranda July), Norwegian Wood (Tran Anh Hung). The rest will be revealed on May 9.

The Farewell my Concubine director will also attend the Australian premiere of his film Sacrifice on June 15.

The 58th Sydney Film Festival runs from 8 – 19 June. For further information visit http://www.sff.org.au
