Chris Kenny’s midnight ABC secret
Dr Mumbo imagines that the worst selling edition of The Australian of the year would have been Boxing Day’s.
After all, half the die hard print subscribers would have been away anyway, and what casual reader would have been motivated to head for the newsagents?
Which is a shame, because the newspaper contained a bombshell revelation.
Columnist Chris Kenny – arguably the ABC’s biggest critic and the man who took legal action against the organisation after The Chaser said something very mean indeed about him – has a secret identity.
Kenny confessed to his readers that the weekly caller to ABC Nightlife quiz The Challenge known simply as “Chris from Sydney” is him.
He got in the habit of ringing the Philip Clark-hosted phone-in while driving home from his late night show on Sky News.
Kenny revealed: “I’ve long been an avid ABC viewer and listener; how else could you become a critic?”
But, he revealed, his cover was eventually blown. Former Tony Abbott chief of staff Peta Credlin recognised his voice, and texted to share her own confession: she’s been a listener for 18 years.
Of course, Kenny isn’t the only media personality with a radio double identity. He can think of a certain breakfast TV weather presenter who may just be behind this extraordinary late night radio clip featuring poor old Graeme Gilbert.
Kenny’s apetite for writing himself into every yarn knows no bounds
