ex-Clems Brisbane digital head Chris-Rhyss Edwards joins fundraising group
Clemenger BBDO Brisbane’s former head of digital Chris-Rhyss Edwards has left the industry to work for grassroots fundraising group Fundraising Directory as PR and marketing manager.
The departure follows Clems Brisbane bought Brisbane agency Gallery De Pasquale, where Edwards worked before the merger.
Edwards said: “I moved back to Brisbane after a decade in Sydney because I missed the way of life here. Where I really enjoyed my time at GDP, I didn’t feel that life at Clem’s was for me.”
At Clems Brisbane, Edwards was replaced by David Smerdon, the former MD of McCann Worldgroup Brisbane.
Edwards said that his time at GDP working with the likes of Mater Foundation, the Salvation Army and Queensland Health inspired him to join the fundraising arena.
“At the end of last year when I was deciding what I wanted to do with the next decade of my life, I realised that as great as it was to have an unlimited supply of beer in the office at Clem’s, what I really wanted to do was get closer to the action and have a direct impact,” he said.
Edwards’s career includes roles at Sensis and News Digital Media, where he lead the team that launched the Your Money brand, and Derwent Howard where he launched their digital arm.
Hey Chris, great to see you doing so well. All the best with the next chapter of your career.
Best
Cath Garcia.

Where was this post six months ago when he actually left Clems to go back to uni?

Congratulations Chris,
I had the pleasure of working closely with Chris at News Limited. As the team that worked on the relaunch of news.com.au will attest he has the infectious enthusiasm of a digital Tasmanian Tiger. He packs more work into a day than anyone I know and still has the energy to tell you “we’re going streaking to the quad” later that night.
Congrats on the new role, they’re lucky to have someone who’ll dive in and have such a red hot go.
Your old workmates miss you (particularly photoshop Friday) – we get a lot more sleep than we used to – but it’s not nearly as much fun.
