Clemenger BBDO Sydney’s Dry July campaign takes top honour at 2019 Siren Awards

Clemenger BBDO Sydney and creatives Ben Clare and Celia Mortlock have taken both the Gold and Silver Awards at the 2019 Siren Awards for their radio campaign urging people to go alcohol-free for Dry July.

The ‘Ducking Autocorrect’ campaign used the idea of avoiding embarrassing autocorrect fails when drunk texting people to humorously encourage people to take part in Dry July.

The 15th annual Siren Awards were held in Sydney this evening, hosted by comedian and Triple M breakfast host Lawrence Mooney.

Clemenger BBDO Brisbane and creatives Christie Luxton, Cristian Staal and Shaun Conroy took the Silver Siren for best single radio ad for their ad ‘Barbershop’ for Keno.

The Siren Council judged the awards, a panel of creative directors and producers from leading advertising agencies around the country. The awards are run by Commercial Radio Australia to encourage excellence and creativity in radio advertising.

John Skaro, Phil van Bruchem, Rachel Blacklaws and Alex Walding of BWM Dentsu and Cox Inall Change took the Siren Client Award, which comes with a cash prize of $5,000, for their ad ‘Bill Bowelly’ for Bowel Cancer Australia.

CRA chief executive officer Joan Warner congratulated all the winners and finalists for their exceptional level of creativity.

“These awards are a great reminder of the ability of radio to cut through and create a strong impact on listeners,” she said.

The winners of the single and radio campaign awards were selected from hundreds of entries throughout 2018 and 2019 over five rounds. The winner of the Gold Siren receives automatic entry for the campaign into the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. The creative and their client also wins accommodation, airfares and delegate passes to the event.
