Clemenger creates interactive website showing life in Sydney’s Tent City

Clemenger BBDO has launched Street-Life View to help Sydneysiders imagine what life is like in Martin Place’s ‘Tent City’ for the homeless.

‘Tent City’ was a community of Sydney’s homeless, set up outside Sydney’s prominent financial district, which after much debate and media coverage was recently broken up by the state government.

Lanz Priestley sold his house in the eastern suburbs 20 years ago to give his children a deposit to buy a house. He has been living on the streets since 1991

Lanz Priestley, mayor of Tent City launched Street-Life View with Clemenger BBDO Sydney to help give a voice to the people behind the issue.

The interactive website allows people to look around and meet the people who live in Tent City and hear their stories. It also shows viewers how they can help.

Priestley said: “Nothing’s going to change without the support of the community. We need to care about each other, and demand action from those who represent us. Sydney is a place where you shouldn’t have to fear for your safety, you shouldn’t have to go hungry, you shouldn’t have to live on the street.”

According to Homelessness NSW the number of people sleeping on the street has increased by 28% since 2011 with 433 people sleeping rough in the city as of February this year with crisis accommodation services in the city ay 90% capacity.

“Homelessness doesn’t go away when protesters are removed from sight. Street-Life View does its bit to make sure these people are not forgotten,” said Ben Coulson, chief creative officer at Clemenger BBDO Sydney. “Street-Life View also gives us a new way to understand more about life on the streets, and help those people out.”
