Clemenger BBDO has moved to revamp its Brisbane office including hiring the creative team behind Tourism Queensland’s award winning Best Job In The World campaign.

Nancy Hartley and James Burchill have been named as joint ECDs of the Brisbane operation. They were previously at Sapient Nitro (the agency that originally started life as Cummins & Partners).

Rejoining the agency as MD is Vanessa Brennan, who also previously worked at Sapient Nitro. Most recently she was in a marketing role for Terry White Chemists and briefly CEO of Canstar Blue.

The creative agency will be one of the few in Australia where the majority of the senior management team is female. The team has been told to make it the number one agency in Brisbane.

Both Hartley and Burchill have worked for Clemenger BBDO agencies previously.

The new blood comes as Brisbane continues to be a tough advertising market. Banjo shut the doors of its Brisbane operation last year, with some staff and clients moving to Sapient Nitro.

Kurt Viertel, who was Clemenger BBDO Brisbane’s MD has stepped down. Clemenger Group executive chairman Robert Morgan said: “Kurt has been running the agency in what has been a difficult market over the past three years and we wish him well in his future career. We are in discussions in respect to continuing his career within the Clemenger Group.”

Morgan added: “Vanessa, Nancy and James are passionate locals with international reputations. They are new-age advertising leaders who will help bring Clemenger BBDO Brisbane into line with the rest of the group and make us the number one agency in Brisbane. We will also be utilising their vast talents across the Clemenger Group nationally.”
