Club call centres feature in Sportsbet’s 2021 AFL preview

Coinciding with the launch of the AFL, Sportsbet has given fans a comedic look at the season ahead by imagining a call centre of every club.

The film is packed with subtle and not-so-subtle jabs at some of the worst performing teams of 2020 and those that went through off-season scandals. Carlton’s representative puts a fan asking for a finals membership on hold for another few seasons, Collingwood is inundated with calls, and the smug Geelong member delivers a ‘6,000 days without a finals win’ cake to Essendon.

“Like the traditional Carlton vs Richmond blockbuster at the ‘G, our annual AFL preview video is the perfect way to kick off the season for punters” said Sportsbet’s communications manager Richard Hummerston.

“Safe to say the poor Collingwood operator will be clocking some serious overtime this season.”

It is the fourth consecutive year Sportsbet has previewed the AFL seasons with comedic films. Last season’s took place in Ubers to the MCG, while 2019’s film was a riff on a parent teacher night at school.

Sportsbet also released a similar video last week for the launch of the NRL season, taking a look at fans of each team succeeding or failing at simple board games.

Sportsbet collaborated with production agency Sherpa on the film.

The film is appearing across Seven, Fox Footy and Sportsbet’s channels during the AFL broadcast.
