Commercial Radio Australia launches quirky Christmas digital campaign
Commercial Radio Australia has today launched its new Christmas campaign, aimed at promoting digital radio as the perfect gift.
Featuring six different ads – created by specialist radio agency Eardrum – the brand campaign will also include online advertising and interactive kiosks, which allow consumers to trial digital radios.
Set to run until December 24, the ads will air across the major commercial radio stations in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.
CRA’s CEO, Joan Warner said: “This extensive Christmas campaign is part of the ongoing investment by the industry and stakeholders to raise the awareness of the benefits of digital radio and encourage listeners to buy a digital radio for Christmas.”
clever and genuinely witty.
A step up from the tired, contrived radio commercials many agencies trot out .

Why is it that the organisation responsible for the Sirens can’t actually commission a good radio ad?
You’re all about getting agencies to create great radio, but then you make these endlessly bad ads for Digital. Surely your ads should be the best, not the worst. I had to keep turning down the radio as one of the last batch was so irritating I couldn’t listen to it.

The CRA ads with the slightly out-of-fashion advertising guru are brilliantly written.
When such simple cleverness is possible, why are there so many shouty-jingly lowest-common-denomenator ads on radio?
