Craig Davis named as new chairman of AWARD

Publicis Mojo creative leader Craig Davis has been named as the new chairman of AWARD following the resignation of Richard Maddocks.

Davis, who is Co-Chairman and Chief Creative Officer of Publicis Mojo, arrived back in Australia last year after a stint as JWT’s global creative leader. Maddocks stepped down after also resigning form his role as ECD of Clemenger BBDO Sydney.

AWARD – the Australasian Writers and Art Directors Association – is Australia’s biggest advertising awards body. Last year it became part of the newly formed Communications Council.

Davis said: “Creativity has never been more important or relevant to enterprise. As an industry we are fundamentally here to solve problems. Through harnessing the best creative thinking we can make a significant contribution to improving business performance and community engagement.

“Creativity doesn’t belong on the fringe of society anymore – it is integral to progress, to prosperity and to success.

Davis’ profile has also risen in recent weeks as the creator of consumer social media site Brandkarma.

AWARD is based in Sydney, which remains its heartland. But in a move which will be of interest to the MADC – Melbourne Advertising & Design Club – Grant Rutherford, ECD of DDB Melbourne, has joined the AWARD committee and national board “in a move that expands AWARD’s footprint throughout Australia”.

Davis and Rutherford will be joining AWARD co-chairman Michael Ritchie and Darryn Devlin on the Communications Council Board from tomorrow.
