Cricket Australia assigns Greenpoint Media to PR account

Cricket Australia has appointed Greenpoint Media to handle its community public relations account as the organisation recovers from its 10-month long pay dispute with players.

The dispute over the player payments model saw Australia’s cricketers fighting for a larger slice of the pie while Cricket Australia was arguing it needed to push more of its revenue towards grass roots support.

The negotiations ended last week resulting in a massive win for the players – in particular women – who saw their pay pool rise from $7.5 million to $55 million. The 10-month long dispute, however, damaged Cricket Australia’s reputation.

Greenpoint Media will now oversee the company’s game development and grassroots space, handling its public relations strategy and growing its diversity cricket programs. One of the company’s first tasks will be the launch of ‘Play Cricket Week’ in September.

The appointment comes days after Cricket Australia announced Magellan Financial Group as the sponsor of the summer test series, to fill a gap created after the Commonwealth Bank scaled back its commitment to the sport earlier this year.

Ash Denman, managing director of Greenpoint Media, said: “We’re really excited to help build on the great work Cricket Australia is already doing in the community and to help tell their story.”
