Cricket Australia insists Cummins’ comments did not influence Alinta’s decision as it ends partnership

Cricket Australia’s $40 million deal with Alinta Energy is set to come to an end next year, after it has been reported test and one-day captain Pat Cummins had raised ethical objections to chief executive Nick Hockley.

In a statement this afternoon, CA thanked Alinta for its “generous sponsorship as the Principal partner of the Australian Men’s team and Platinum partner of Cricket Australia over the past four years”.

It also said that due a change in brand strategy, Alinta has decided to end the partnership next year, asserting that any conversation between Cummins and Hockley did not influence Alinta’s decision.

The sponsorship will come to an end in June next year.

The release from CA finished with a paragraph highlighting Alinta’s clean credentials.

“Cricket Australia acknowledges Alinta Energy’s leadership on the transition to net zero. Alinta Energy has built WA’s biggest producer of renewable energy, the Yandin Wind Farm, one of Australia’s first big batteries, Australia’s largest remote solar farm and is leading in the development of offshore wind farms and pumped hydro in Australia. Alinta Energy is also currently developing around $8 billion of renewables and storage.”

Alinta’s parent company, Pioneer Sail Holdings Pty Ltd is the sixth biggest carbon polluter in Australia.

Last month CA a new men’s Test naming rights partnership with NRMA Insurance, which will see the insurer hold the naming rights for all men’s Test series in Australia for the next four seasons.
