Daily Mail sales lead Benn Sykes to return to CarAdvice

Daily Mail Australia’s first national sales director, Benn Sykes, will return to CarAdvice after just eight months.

Sykes, who joined Daily Mail Australia in February this year is understood to have received a ‘compelling offer’, which will see him return to CarAdvice as commercial director.

He will replace Christian Clark, who moved across to Nine in June as the inaugural head of sales for automotive.

Over at Daily Mail Australia, head of product for marketing and partnerships, Jessica Hunter, has been promoted as commercial director for the digital publisher. Hunter was previously commercial manager for the website, and was promoted earlier this year.

Hunter has previously worked at Mi9, News Corp and ACP Magazines – now known as Bauer Media.

Peter Holder, managing director of Daily Mail Australia, wished Sykes all the best.

“Well, just as Benn describes himself, his tenure here was short and sweet – but I thank him for what he brought to the table in that time,” said Holder.

“The offer to return to CarAdvice.com was compelling, and just too good to for him to refuse, but I’ll leave that to Benn and his old-new employer to announce when they’re ready.

“But departures often bring opportunity and to that end I’m absolutely delighted to promote Jessica Hunter – our greatest brand champion – to a role which oversees direct, programmatic and support. She will shine in this role, no doubt.”

CarAdvice CEO and managing director, Andrew Beecher, added: “Benn departed on his own terms in January to take a very good senior role at the Daily Mail.

“He was missing specialist media and we were certainly missing his specialist skills a lot. Benn is a true believer in auto as its own vertical, so he’s particularly good at creative solutions beyond banners and traditional digital such as video, branded content and experiential which are all growth areas for CarAdvice. He’s well-liked by our clients and agencies which is a really important part of auto.”
