NewsLocal urges Sydneysiders to get out and take a picture of the city in second #SnapSydney campaign

Newslocal is bringing its #SnapSydney campaign initiative back for the second year, and is urging Sydneysiders to get out and take a picture if the city today and submit it to their portals.

The announcement:

#SnapSydney 2015 comes to life this week as NewsLocal newspapers once again call on all Sydney-siders to help us capture a day in the life of this great city through the eyes of those that live here.

On Wednesday 18 November,   everyone is invited to stop and take a photo of something that sums up what life in Sydney means to them and share it on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram using #SnapSydney.

Martin Place in Sydney’s CBD will serve as the centre point of this unique community initiative.  Live action will begin from 7:30am with a huge digital billboard truck streaming #SnapSydney pictures and videos all day.

Pop and hip hop artist Alphamama will perform on stage alongside a NewsLocal marquee offering free goodies and a selfie photo printer.

There will also be a series of instameets throughout the day, hosted by photographer Matthew Vandeputte.

Some of the country’s biggest names have already jumped on board including Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, NSW Premier Mike Baird, Guy Sebastian, Delta Goodrem and Tim Cahill.

And 100 NewsLocal reporters and photographers will also be documenting the historic event, with images published in real time throughout the day on a digital wall at www.snapsydney.com.au.

A ‘best of’ gallery will be published on NewsLocal and The Daily Telegraph websites the following day, with the best images to also feature in special edition wraps and inserts across the 20 NewsLocal mastheads next week.

Best photos on the day will be eligible for great Canon prizes in four categories: food, faces, places and editor’s choice.

Last year the first #SnapSydney was a massive success with over 10,000 photographs shared using the #SnapSydney hashtag and NewsLocal looks to exceed that figure this year.

NewsLocal editor-in-chief Kathy Lipari said: “#SnapSydney embraces our city’s love of snapping and sharing photos in a truly unique way. We had a huge range of images sent to us last year, including selfies of people on their morning runs, their commute to work, beautiful sunrises and of course our gorgeous coastline and harbour. This year we expect #SnapSydney to be even bigger and better, capturing the essence of what Sydney life really means to our readers.”

NewsLocal general manager Michael Wilkins said: “This was a fantastic campaign last year and I’m looking forward to see it in action again this year. #SnapSydney extends across all of our NewsLocal mastheads to create a photographic time capsule of Sydney life across all corners of this great city.”

Managing director, community publishing Brett Clegg said: “NewsLocal publications are at the forefront of communities in Sydney and this project is a unique way to unite and engage the city, as is shown by the success of last year’s event. It is a true cross-platform initiative, utilising all of the NewsLocal assets across print, digital and social with further amplification via the event day activations.”
