Ikon hands Dan Johns national CEO role, Brett Dawson and Chris Christofi move on

STW Group media agency Ikon Communications has restructured its management team and created a new role – national CEO – to be filled with Sydney managing partner Dan Johns.

The restructure sees the exit of Sydney agency director Brett Dawson and national strategy director Chris Christofi, who leave to start an as yet unnamed venture backed by STW Group next month.

The rejigg also sees the Sydney office return to the dual leadership team of agency founders Simon White and Gary Hardwick 12 years ago, with the promotion of Annick Perrin and Pat Crowley from agency directors to managing partners.

“The Ikon Sydney business has consistently performed at the very highest level and Dan’s leadership has been a strong contributing factor to this,” said STW Group CEO Michael Connaghan.

“It makes perfect sense, and is a natural progression for Dan, to take on a broader role across the Ikon brand and its expansion into new markets. This move has been made possible because of the proven depth and breadth of the leadership team at Ikon, and we are excited and confident about Ikon’s opportunity to keep growing fast on the back of unique and outstanding solutions for clients.”

Johns will lead a management line-up that see national roles assigned to trading director Nicole Turley, people and culture director Leonie Kerley and finance director David Gerrie.

Ikon has offices in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, and plans to open an office in Brisbane.

To aid its expansion in the region, the agency has formed an advisory board made up of Connaghan, Johns, CFO Simon Brock and agency founder Simon White.

Ikon is Australia’s seventh largest media buyer, according to Nielsen.
